Automation & Commissioning Team Leader

About the role

GEA is seeking an Automation & Commissioning Team Leader to join its Nutrition Plant Engineering division in Colombia. You will work closely with the Head of Engineering to define and implement the automation strategy for food, beverage and pharmaceutical projects.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure project automation complies with customer specifications, GEA norms and automation standards.
• Document automation engineering according to GEA procedures and develop functional analyses.
• Organize, coordinate and control development work for control systems assigned to projects.
• Implement automation projects within budget, seeking improvements while meeting quality and deadline constraints.
• Preserve GEA’s contractual interests on‑site and manage any automation changes.
• Participate in productivity improvement and innovation projects in the automation domain.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory safety requirements and evaluate safety during commissioning.

Required profile

• Leadership skills to coordinate resources, support team members and implement department strategy.
• Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes in beverage, dairy or food industries, including CIP and hygienic design.
• Ability to generate pre‑engineering, schedule automation activities and model control sequences from P&IDs.

Required skills

• PLC programming of process and CIP sequences.
• HMI and SCADA programming.
• Setup of industrial protocol networks, I/O periphery and VFD commissioning.
• FAT procedures, dry and wet commissioning, product testing and PAT.
• Use of ISA standards for automation engineering.
• Design of automation architecture, including hardware/software lists and electrical cabinets.
