Kernel Developer – Remote (LATAM focus)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Kernel Developer to join the KernelCare ELS team. The role is fully remote with a focus on LATAM-friendly time zones. You will work on backporting, packaging and validating Linux kernel patches for legacy distributions.

Key responsibilities

• Research upstream security CVEs and bug fixes, analyze dependencies and impact on legacy kernels.
• Manually backport Linux kernel patches to older RPM‑based and Debian‑based distributions.
• Resolve merge conflicts, build and rebuild kernel source and binary packages using reproducible environments.
• Validate patched kernels through build tests, runtime tests and regression analysis.
• Enhance internal workflows with Python, Go and Shell scripting, and integrate AI‑assisted development tools while verifying output.

Required profile

• Hands‑on practitioner who enjoys working directly with kernel code.
• Methodical, detail‑oriented and ownership‑driven, documenting work and communicating risks.
• Curious about AI tools but maintains rigorous verification.
• Thrives in an async, remote‑first environment.

Required skills

• Strong C programming and Linux debugging skills.
• Commercial experience in Linux kernel development, patching and backporting.
• Proficiency with Git, GNU make, Autotools and standard Linux developer utilities.
• Scripting in Python, Go or Shell.
• Experience building and packaging kernels for RPM/SRPM and Debian ecosystems.
• Familiarity with Docker, QEMU, Jenkins or similar CI systems.
