Associate Director - Electrical Engineering (Data Centers)

About the role

Join AECOM as an Associate Director leading electrical engineering for data center projects in Bogota. You will design reliable, scalable power systems that support mission‑critical operations and drive sustainable energy solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for data centers, including power distribution, UPS, generators, lighting and grounding.
• Perform load calculations and capacity planning for IT equipment, cooling and infrastructure, ensuring scalability.
• Select and specify transformers, switchgear, UPS units, circuit breakers and distribution panels meeting safety standards.
• Design redundancy and fault‑tolerant features such as dual feeds, backup power and automatic switchover.
• Integrate energy‑efficient and sustainable solutions, including renewable energy and storage systems.
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical and HVAC engineers to meet power requirements.
• Ensure compliance with standards (Uptime Institute, TIA‑942, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NEC) and prepare detailed documentation.
• Supervise testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of installed systems.

Required profile

• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on data center infrastructure.
• Proven expertise in power distribution, backup power, load calculations and redundancy planning.
• Strong knowledge of building and electrical codes (IBC, IFC, NEC, IEEE, ASHRAE 90.1) and data‑center standards.
• Hands‑on experience with design and simulation tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, DIALux or SKM Power Tools.
• Experience reviewing arc‑flash and short‑circuit studies and handling contractor submittals.
• Advanced English communication skills.
