Principal Engineer – Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL)

About the role

Lead design and integration of Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems for medium‑ and high‑complexity airport projects in Bogota, ensuring compliance with ICAO, FAA/EASA standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs, single‑line/multi‑line diagrams, calculations for CCRs, transformers, cable sizing and final circuits.
• Design runway layouts, placement of runway lights, PAPI and approach systems according to photometric criteria and regulations.
• Define and integrate ALCMS/ALCS control logic, telemetry, I/O, and interfaces with SCADA/BMS/A‑SMGCS.
• Prepare technical reports, bills of quantities, specifications, tender documents and acceptance/test criteria.
• Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, photometric testing and operational verification.
• Manage risks, multidisciplinary coordination, civil‑works interfaces and ensure airside safety compliance.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct QA/QC reviews.

Required profile

• BA/BS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with minimum 6 years experience.
• Senior‑level experience designing and/or constructing AGL systems at operational or greenfield airports.
• Strong knowledge of AGL series circuits, CCRs, runway lighting photometry, PAPI and related criteria.
• Proficiency with ICAO Annex 14 and relevant FAA or EASA regulations.
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation and electrical calculation tools.
• Technical English proficiency for documentation and coordination.

Required skills

• Design of AGL systems, including series circuits, CCRs, LED beaconing, runway/taxiway lighting.
• ALCMS/ALCS integration with SCADA, BMS and A‑SMGCS.
• AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting.
• Electrical calculation tools for load flow and cable sizing.
• Photometric analysis using AGi32, DIALux or equivalent.
