Principal Engineer - Sewer Systems

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Principal Engineer – Water, Hydraulics and Drainage to lead hydraulic modelling and design of wastewater, stormwater and urban drainage systems in Bogotá. The role combines technical leadership, project management and stakeholder engagement to deliver sustainable water infrastructure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end hydraulic modelling using InfoWorks ICM, including model build, calibration, scenario testing and results interpretation.
• Design foul sewer, storm sewer and urban drainage networks, translating model outputs into constructible solutions.
• Develop and evaluate CSO spill reduction programs and flood mitigation schemes.
• Define modelling strategies, data requirements and QA/QC plans in line with AECOM standards.
• Coordinate with Lead Offices and multidisciplinary teams across time zones to ensure aligned scope and delivery milestones.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct technical reviews and maintain high standards of technical excellence.
• Manage work packages, schedules and budgets, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications and digital assets with robust data management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline with 6+ years of experience in hydraulic modelling and design.
• Proven experience leading work packages and coordinating distributed design teams.
• Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, network design standards and asset performance assessment.
• Excellent technical writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Intermediate conversational English (B2‑C1).

Required skills

• InfoWorks ICM (including RTC, 2D overland flow integration).
• GIS for spatial data handling.
• AutoCAD / Civil 3D for drafting and design.
• SWMM, HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS for supplementary modelling.
• Python and SQL for data workflows.
• Experience with pump station and treatment works assessment.
