Principal Engineer – Transmission Lines (T&D) Structural Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high‑voltage overhead transmission line projects (132 kV to 765 kV+) for AECOM’s Transmission & Distribution team in Bogota. The role covers the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design and construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop route alignments, tower spotting, conductor selection, and insulator configurations for HV/EHV lines.
• Lead PLS‑CADD modelling, perform electrical studies (ampacity, corona, line impedance) and mechanical studies (sag‑tension, wind/ice loading).
• Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, power‑systems and environmental teams to deliver integrated design packages.
• Prepare technical reports, calculation notes, tower spotting reports and construction drawings complying with IEC, IEEE, EN/British Standards and local DNO specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience designing HV/EHV overhead transmission lines (132 kV–765 kV+).
• Proven ability to deliver engineering packages across multiple project phases.
• Fluent English (oral and written).

• PLS‑CADD, PLS‑TOWER, PLS‑POLE, ETAP, ATPDraw.
• AutoCAD, REVIT, MathCAD, CDEGS, HIFREQ.
• Sag‑tension calculations and transmission line design analysis.
