Senior Engineer – Transmission Lines (T&D)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join AECOM’s Transmission & Distribution team in Bogota. The role focuses on the design and delivery of high‑voltage overhead transmission line systems (132 kV to 765 kV+) from feasibility through detailed design and construction support. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective power infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Execute design and engineering for HV/EHV overhead transmission lines, including route alignment, tower spotting, conductor and earth‑wire selection, and insulator configurations.
• Lead PLS‑CADD modelling, develop transmission line layouts, and provide technical input for tower loading and structural design.
• Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, power systems, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions and support construction phases.
• Prepare technical reports, calculation notes, sag‑tension charts, BoQs, and construction drawings that meet IEC, IEEE, EN/British Standards and local DNO specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience designing HV/EHV overhead transmission lines (132 kV–765 kV+).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical behaviour of conductors, clearance and safety requirements, and transmission line routing.
• Proficiency in English (oral and written) and ability to work independently in a project delivery environment.

Required skills

• PLS‑CADD, PLS‑TOWER, PLS‑POLE.
• ETAP or equivalent transmission line analysis software.
• AutoCAD, REVIT, MathCAD.
• Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, EN/British Standards and National Grid/DNO specifications.
