Software Security Engineer (Remote, Colombia)

About the role

This is a fully remote Senior Software Developer III position based in Colombia, described as an AI-first role. You act as a technical leader within your team and across the engineering organization, shaping architecture and design, raising the bar on engineering quality and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders. You work primarily on the cloud platform and architecture, and can step into a legacy native Windows codebase when refactoring or security work is needed.

Key responsibilities

• Create architecture, prototypes and design proposals aligned with the product and platform vision
• Influence technical direction through architecture reviews, RFCs, prototypes and hands-on delivery across the SDLC
• Partner with senior developers, architects and tech leads to define the architecture roadmap, and break large initiatives into parallel, incremental work
• Champion proposals through the SDLC and contribute to the core product build, CI/CD pipelines and automation of builds, testing and deployment
• Evaluate emerging technologies and build-vs-buy trade-offs, and mentor developers on design reviews and AI-assisted development
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive reliability, observability, monitoring and incident response
• Define back-end service architecture and standards for scalability, security, reliability and APIs, and design, build and operate distributed cloud-native services
• Own the security posture and CVE-remediation strategy across the cloud platform's dependencies, including legacy Windows code where needed, and apply applied-cryptography and secure-transport patterns

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of professional software development experience with impact beyond a single team
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-native SaaS/multi-tenant platforms at scale, ideally on AWS
• Strong software fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, SOLID) and a track record of advocating for code quality
• Experience mentoring developers and influencing architectural decisions
• Experience with agentic-AI software development practices
• Experience designing and consuming HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL or similar)
• Willingness to learn native Windows/C++ or to refactor a legacy desktop codebase
