Tech Lead – Users & Auth

About the role

Clara is seeking a Tech Lead for the Users & Auth team to own the technical direction of authentication, authorization, identity, and access control systems. This is a hands‑on builder role where you lead by code, architecture docs, and reviews.

Key responsibilities

• Own architecture and system design for the domain, including tech stack, API contracts, data models, and infrastructure while staying hands‑on coding.
• Drive the team’s execution rhythm (sprint planning, stand‑ups, backlog grooming, retrospectives) and be accountable for velocity metrics such as PR cycle time and deploy frequency.
• Set engineering excellence standards: code reviews, test coverage, and proactive technical debt management.
• Unblock the team daily through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and debugging.
• Review product specs from a technical perspective, flag feasibility gaps, and identify AI tooling opportunities.
• Maintain system health for owned services, covering security posture, scalability, performance, and availability.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with a senior technical voice (Staff+ level).
• Hands‑on builder mindset, actively contributing PRs, architecture docs, and reviews.
• Strong architecture and system‑design judgment in complex domains.
• Product sense to collaborate with product partners and influence priorities.
• Full‑stack engineering with backend focus; experience in Java and Spring is a plus.
• Knowledge of auth, identity, and security best practices; exposure to Auth0 is a plus.
• Fluent in English and comfortable leading technical discussions across geographies.
